Fairfax, VA – Today, the Virginia State Association of Letter Carriers, representing more than 3,600 active and retired letter carriers across the Commonwealth, announced its endorsement of Fairfax County Supervisor James Walkinshaw in his campaign to represent Virginia’s 11th Congressional District.
This latest endorsement adds to a surge of momentum for the Walkinshaw campaign, which continues to consolidate support from a broad coalition of federal, state, and local leaders, labor unions, and grassroots advocates committed to delivering real results for Northern Virginia and standing up to Trump’s dangerous agenda.
In their endorsement, the Virginia State Association of Letter Carriers praised Walkinshaw’s unwavering record of support for postal workers and working families—both as a local elected official and as the longtime Chief of Staff to Congressman Gerry Connolly, a longtime champion of the U.S. Postal Service.
“Northern Virginia deserves a representative who will champion working families, support letter carriers, and strengthen the U.S. Postal Service,” said Jamie Drayton-Bey, President of the Virginia State Association of Letter Carriers. “James’ experience on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and his leadership alongside our long-time champion, the late Rep. Gerry Connolly, demonstrates his strong commitment to our members. His work under Connolly’s service on behalf of Virginia letter carriers extended far beyond our great state—defending collective bargaining rights, promoting letter carrier safety, and protecting the Postal Service’s universal network to ensure six- and seven-day service to every home and business. We look forward to building on that legacy and proudly support his Congressional campaign.”
Walkinshaw expressed deep gratitude for the endorsement and reaffirmed his longstanding commitment to letter carriers and the public servants who keep Virginia and the nation running.
“I’m proud to have the endorsement of the Virginia Association of Letter Carriers. As Congressman Connolly often reminded us, the Constitution and Congress give the United States Postal Service a clear mandate to deliver efficient, reliable, and universal service to all Americans,” said Walkinshaw. “In Congress, I’ll fight any effort to ignore or retreat from that mandate.”
With 50 endorsements from trusted local, state, and federal leaders—including the National Federation of Federal Employees representing thousands of public servants in VA-11—Walkinshaw’s campaign continues to generate momentum ahead of the Democratic Firehouse Primary on Saturday, June 28.
Additional endorsements will be announced in the days ahead.
