Fairfax, VA – Today, in a major boost from the labor movement, Teamsters Local 639—a powerhouse for workers’ rights in the D.C. region—has endorsed Fairfax County Supervisor James Walkinshaw (D-Braddock) for Congress in Virginia’s 11th District, calling him exactly the fighter working families need in Washington.
In their endorsement letter, Teamsters Local 639 President William Davis wrote:
“James Walkinshaw has long been a champion for working families in Northern Virginia. Throughout his service on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, James has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the values that matter most to our union: good jobs, strong labor protections, collective bargaining rights, and economic justice for all.
“He has stood shoulder to shoulder with organized labor, not just in words but in action. From advocating for project labor agreements to supporting prevailing wage standards and workers’ rights to organize, James has consistently proven that he understands the challenges facing working people and that he’s ready to fight for solutions.
“We urge our fellow union members, working families, and voters across the district to stand with us in supporting James Walkinshaw for Congress. With James in Washington, working people will have a true advocate on their side,” concluded William Davis.
Deeply grateful for the union’s support, Walkinshaw pledged to keep fighting for working families.
“I’m honored to receive the endorsement of Teamsters Local 639—one of the strongest voices for workers in our region. From day one, I’ve stood with organized labor because I believe unions are essential to building a fair economy and restoring the American Dream. In Congress, I’ll keep fighting alongside the Teamsters and every working family to protect the rights of workers, grow the middle class, and ensure dignity on the job,” said Supervisor Walkinshaw.
Teamsters Local 639 represents thousands of workers across the D.C. metro area—including in freight, warehousing, healthcare, public service, transportation, and more. Affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the union remains one of the region’s most influential champions for labor rights.
Walkinshaw—backed by more than 50+ endorsements, including the National Federation of Federal Employees, the Virginia State Association of Letter Carriers, and the late Congressman Gerry Connolly—is continuing to build grassroots momentum ahead of the June 28 Democratic Firehouse Primary.

James Walkinshaw has devoted his career to ensuring that Northern Virginia remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family. He served as Chief of Staff to Congressman Gerry Connolly for more than a decade, stood up to the Trump Administration on the Board of Supervisors, and now he’s running for Congress to stop Trump’s dangerous agenda and deliver for Fairfax.
