Walkinshaw Earns UFCW Local 400’s Endorsement to Fight for Their 35,000+ Members

Fairfax, VA – Today, the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 400, which represents more than 35,000 workers across Virginia and the region, officially endorsed Fairfax County Supervisor James Walkinshaw (D-Braddock) for Congress in Virginia’s 11th District, calling him the candidate who will fight for their members and the working families who power our economy.

The union said Walkinshaw is the principled leader workers need in Washington as Republican extremism threatens their jobs, wages, and freedoms.

“After many years of service behind the late great Congressman Gerry Connolly, and as a member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, James Walkinshaw has dedicated his career to serving the people of Northern Virginia,” said UFCW Local 400 President Mark Federici. “We know he is committed to championing the needs of our members and defending all hard-working families from extremist Republican attacks on our social safety net, civil liberties, and our democracy itself. We look forward to James taking the fight to Capitol Hill where he is so greatly needed.”

The endorsement adds to Walkinshaw’s growing labor coalition and reflects strong confidence in his ability to deliver for working families.

“I’m proud to have UFCW Local 400 standing with us in this campaign,” said Supervisor Walkinshaw. “Their members power our economy. From grocery store aisles to health care facilities, they’re the backbone of the communities we rely on—and Northern Virginia wouldn’t be the economic powerhouse it is without them. In Congress, I’ll fight every day to make sure they have the wages, protections, and respect they deserve.”

With this latest endorsement, Walkinshaw has now secured support from over 55 elected officials, community leaders, and labor organizations, including Teamsters Local 639, the National Federation of Federal Employees, the Virginia State Association of Letter Carriers, and the 32BJ SEIU.

Walkinshaw continues to build grassroots momentum heading into the June 28 Democratic Firehouse Primary.
