32BJ SEIU Endorses Walkinshaw as the Champion Working Families Need in Congress at this Moment

Fairfax, VA – Today, Fairfax County Supervisor James Walkinshaw (D-Braddock) has earned the endorsement of 32BJ SEIU, one of the largest and most powerful unions representing essential workers across the region.

32BJ SEIU’s members are the backbone of Northern Virginia’s economy—working as cleaners, property maintenance workers, doormen, security officers, airport workers, window cleaners, building engineers, and school and food service workers.

They’ve chosen Supervisor James Walkinshaw as their fighter in Congress because of his proven record and unwavering commitment to working families—delivering results on fair wages, better benefits, and respect on the job.

“From joining picket lines at the airport and standing shoulder to shoulder with Navy Federal Credit Union janitors whose livelihoods are at risk, Walkinshaw has been there every time low-wage workers need him. We are inspired by his bold agenda to introduce a federal worker retention bill, setting minimum national labor standards, defending Medicaid, and stopping unjust deportations. As Republicans continue to attack immigrants and the working class, Walkinshaw is a powerful, opposing force who won’t hide behind politically convenient positions,” said Jaime Contreras, 32BJ Executive Vice President and SEIU Virginia State Council President.

Walkinshaw thanked the union for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to Virginia’s workers.

“I’m humbled to have the support of 32BJ SEIU and deeply grateful for the essential workers they represent,” said Supervisor Walkinshaw. “Their members power our region every day—as property maintenance workers, school and food service workers, airport workers, and more. In Congress, I’ll always stand with working families—fighting for fair wages, quality benefits, and the dignity every worker deserves.”

With over 55 endorsements from local, state, and federal leaders—and the backing of powerhouse labor unions like the National Federation of Federal Employees, Teamsters Local 639, and the Virginia State Association of Letter Carriers—Walkinshaw’s campaign is surging with momentum as the June 28 primary nears.

The Democratic Firehouse Primary takes place on Saturday, June 28.

Additional endorsements will be announced in the days ahead.

James Walkinshaw has devoted his career to ensuring that Northern Virginia remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family. He served as Chief of Staff to Congressman Gerry Connolly for more than a decade, stood up to the Trump Administration on the Board of Supervisors, and now he’s running for Congress to stop Trump’s dangerous agenda and deliver for Fairfax.
