How to Vote

• September 18th: Early in-person voting begins
• October 23rd: Deadline to register to vote, update your voter registration, or request an absentee ballot
• October 31st: Last day to vote early
• November 3rd: Election Day — polls are open from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM

How to Vote

The 2026 General Election is Tuesday, November 3rd. Whether you vote early, by mail, or on Election Day, make a plan now and make sure your voter registration is up to date.

Register to Vote

The deadline to register to vote or update your registration for the November election is Friday, October 23rd, 2026. Online registration is available until 11:59 PM, while in-person registration closes at 5:00 PM.

You should also check your registration if you have recently moved, changed your name, or are unsure whether your information is current.

Missed the deadline? Virginia also offers Same Day Registration through Election Day. Voters who register after the October 23rd deadline will cast a provisional ballot.

Vote Early

Early in-person voting begins Friday, September 18th and continues through Saturday, October 31st at 5:00 PM. You do not need a reason to vote early. 

In Fairfax County, you can vote weekdays at the Fairfax County Government Center (8 AM – 4:30 PM), the North County Governmental Center (1 PM – 7PM), or the Mt. Vernon Governmental Center (1 PM – 7 PM) beginning on September 18th.

On Saturday, September 19th, you can vote at any of the three locations 9 AM – 5 PM. 

On Sunday, October 18th, you can vote at any of the three locations 12 PM – 5 PM. 

An additional 13 voting locations will open beginng on October 22nd.

In Fairfax City, you can vote at Fairfax City Hall from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays starting September 18th, and on October 18th, 24th, 25th and 31st.

Vote by Mail

The deadline to request a ballot by mail is Friday, October 23rd at 5:00 PM. Any registered Virginia voter can vote absentee by mail. You do not need to provide a reason. If you plan to vote by mail, request your ballot early and return it as soon as possible.

What’s on your Ballot?

Virginia voters will elect a statewide U.S. Senator, their member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and vote on three proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution. Your ballot may also include local candidates and ballot questions depending on where you live.

If you live in Virginia’s 11th Congressional District, you can vote to reelect Congressman James Walkinshaw. 

Three Constitutional Amendments

Every Virginia voter will have three proposed constitutional amendments on their ballot. James supports voting YES on all three.

Question 1: Protect Reproductive Freedom — VOTE YES

Would amend Virginia’s Constitution to protect the right to make personal decisions about reproductive health care, including contraception, fertility care, pregnancy, miscarriage care, childbirth, and abortion.

Question 2: Protect Marriage Equality — VOTE YES

Would remove Virginia’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, affirm the right of two adults to marry regardless of sex, gender, or race, and require legally valid marriages to be treated equally under Virginia law.

Question 3: Protect the Right to Vote — VOTE YES

Would establish a fundamental right to vote in Virginia, restoring voting rights to people convicted of a felony once they are released from incarceration.
